An independent firm with a wider network behind it
Compton Financial Services is an independent advice firm. We look after our own clients and give our own advice, with the personal service of a smaller firm.
We are also part of New Leaf Distribution, a network of around 90 financial advisers authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. That gives you the oversight, resources and continuity you would expect from a much larger firm.
This is the same appointed representative model used by many of the UK’s best-known advice businesses. The difference is that our network gives whole of market advice, so we are not limited to one company’s products.
What the network means for you
Every recommendation is checked
New Leaf’s compliance team oversees our work and reviews and signs off all advice before it reaches you.
Whole of market
We are not tied to any provider. We research the whole market to find what suits you.
Insured advice
Our advice is covered by professional indemnity insurance provided through the network.
Continuity built in
Client records and systems are held centrally by New Leaf, so your plan is always looked after.
Where your money is held
We never hold client money. We give advice and instructions; your money moves only between your bank account and the investment platform or provider.
Segregation means your assets are kept separate from each firm’s own money. If a platform, fund manager or custodian failed, your assets would not form part of that firm’s own estate available to its creditors. FSCS protection can then apply on top of this, within its limits.
How you’re protected
| Regulation | We are an appointed representative of New Leaf Distribution Ltd, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 460421). You can check both firms on the FCA Register. |
|---|---|
| Financial Ombudsman Service | If you are unhappy with our response to a complaint, you can refer it to the Financial Ombudsman Service, free of charge. It can award up to £455,000 for complaints about acts on or after 1 April 2019. |
| Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) | If an authorised firm fails and cannot pay what it owes, the FSCS can compensate eligible clients. The limit is up to £85,000 per person, per firm, for investment business, including investment advice. Cash deposits are protected up to £120,000 per person, per banking institution. |
| Professional indemnity insurance | Our advice is covered by professional indemnity insurance provided by New Leaf. |
FSCS protection covers firm failure and certain claims about poor advice. It does not cover falls in the value of investments because of market movements.
Online first, in person if you prefer
Most of our clients prefer to meet by video call. It saves travel, fits around work and family, and means you can share documents on screen with us. You can also meet us in person in Wimbledon or Farnham by arrangement.
All our meetings and calls are at no cost. You only pay a fee if you wish to proceed with our recommendations.
Complaints
We’d always like the chance to put things right, so please let us know first if you’re unhappy with any part of our service. Our formal complaints procedure, including how to contact New Leaf Distribution and your right to refer your complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service, is set out in our complaints policy.
